From its rider seat, the GS feels unlike any other big adventure bike. Even on twisty Welsh mountain roads it remains easy to maintain control.

Starting from a standing start, your ride height automatically decreases as you accelerate – this neat trick helps make the bike seem smaller and simpler to control.

The Frame

“The 2025 BMW R 1300 GS is not just another motorcycle-it’s an experience.” According to Christof Lischka, head of BMW Motorrad Development: “Never before has seating comfort been so harmoniously combined with wind protection and precise handling as well as exceptional suspension comfort and smooth throttle response.

BMW’s most powerful Boxer yet boasting 145 horsepower and 110 ft-lb of torque is at the core of this revolution; its bottom-mounted transmission and ShiftCam technology ensure power is available across its speed range for greater efficiency and smooth running characteristics.

The chassis was designed with comfort in mind, featuring a compact sheet-metal main frame and lattice aluminum rear frame, along with an ergonomic rider seat and footrest for passenger riding comfort. A 6.5-inch full-color TFT screen displays information such as GPS directions and trip data while ventilated smartphone charging compartment keeps your devices charged, as well as an eCall system that will alert emergency services of an accident should one occur.

The Fuel Tank

After unveiling its R 1300 GS base model last year, BMW Motorrad unveiled this longer-range Adventure variant for 2025. While still keeping with its chunky appearance and featuring ample equipment mounting points, this model features an expanded cockpit for added space and plenty of equipment mounting points.

At the core of the updated GS lies its 1,300cc boxer engine, which represents more than an incremental improvement; rather, its claimed 145 horsepower and 110 lb-ft of torque make it an unstoppable force on winding mountain roads or long highways alike.

This engine features a six-speed transmission mounted beneath it for reduced height and weight, and allows BMW’s optional Automated Shift Assistant, making shifting easier than ever. Even with its significant jump in power, fuel economy has been optimized through enhanced air/liquid cooling as well as decreased load reversal cycles to deliver peak performance while still keeping riding fun at its core.

The Seat

The 2025 BMW R1300 GS was designed for riders looking for more than just a ride; they want an experience. No matter if it’s weekend warrior exploring Houston backroads or an adventurer planning an extended journey across America; this bike has enough power and agility to get you wherever it needs to go.

BMW Motorrad’s Evo Telelever system ensures precise handling and exceptional suspension comfort while still offering a sporty look at the front end of this tourer.

A 6.5-inch full-color TFT display gives all of the information you need at a glance, from navigation to bike performance metrics. Bluetooth connectivity lets you seamlessly link with your smartphone for music listening or following GPS directions without taking your eyes off the road. And in case of emergency, Intelligent Emergency Call sends SOS signals directly to rescue services so you’re never alone on the open road.

The Mirrors

The GS was released to market just as baby boomers began finding themselves with empty nests and extra income to spend. Its sit-up-and-beg seating position fit their dad bods well while its “go anywhere in the world” philosophy provided them with something Walter Mitty could relate to.

BMW claims its new upper fork construction features a handlebar decoupling system to separate steering forces from damping, providing significantly greater rigidity.

ShiftCam engine technology delivers improved responsiveness in Enduro mode, and Eco ride modes let riders select throttle and torque limits for maximum efficiency. An efficiency indicator on the TFT display shows riders how many miles are expected per tank; additionally, its aluminum 7.9 gallon fuel tank weighs 26 pounds less than previous models.
